New Year, New Goals

I always feel sad when January rolls around. I really don’t like that Christmas is over and all signs of it will get packed away for another year. That being said, I do appreciate the newness that January brings. I have never been one for making strict resolutions, but instead prefer to choose some things that I am interested in trying or projects that I would like to complete.  I usually pick my top three, break each item down into manageable parts and write out a time line that will allow me to complete these goals within the year. If I finish early, I will add something else to the list.

This year I chose four as I didn’t quite complete one of my goals from last year, which was to read the Bible in a year. I got halfway! I have decided to start again using a different reading plan. So far I am on track! 😉

My second goal is to master the recipe app called Cook’n. It allows me to capture recipes from anywhere online, create weekly meal plans and generate shopping lists. I hope to implement a more efficient system of planning dinners for the family that is easier for my helpers to execute.

Last year I completed two online courses involving neuroscience, rewiring the brain and inducing healing. I found them fascinating and learned a lot of valuable information. This year I am planning to do an online essential oils course. I use oils every day and find them very helpful. I really want to learn more about their many uses, particularly their healing properties.

The last item on my list is very important and will definitely take the most time. I want to make photo books for the kids, starting from the time they were babies up until now. I don’t want to get overwhelmed by the enormity of the project so I have set generous time lines. I am giving myself until April to gather, organize and choose photos and then will have the spring and summer to work on the books. I want to add a lot of journaling to really explain the photos and the stories behind them. This is the project I am most excited about. I had planned on doing these as paper scrapbooks, but this is certainly the next best thing!

My decision to share my New Year’s goals is twofold. First, by writing them out publicly I am held more accountable to finish them. 😉  More importantly, I really want to dispel the myth that because a person has ALS their life is over and their days must be spent watching television or staring at the wall. Thanks to amazing adaptive technology I can complete all of the items I mentioned and more, even without the use of my hands and voice. There remains a lot of life to live.  It truly is incredible!

Happy 2020 to you! 🙂

  1. Ahhh Leanne, you have just put into words some of my own goals for this year. The photo books especially. I have procrastinated far too long on that one & it is time. I just finished my first book today as a matter of fact so perhaps you & I can keep each other accountable, or just keep encouraging one another to keep it up! It is overwhelming with digitized photos, but little by little the task will get done. And I too am grateful for the advancement of tech in that area. Even though I’m a bit of a Luddite I’m trying to get over my hang ups regarding computers & simply do it! We do have so much at our disposal to help us achieve what we desire to accomplish, it is quite amazing! God Bless you as you revisit the past & journey through the memories. ~B 💖👍🏼

  2. Wow Leanne , those are ambitious goals- I definitely am inspired by you. I really don’t make goals, but after reading yours, I want to make some goals for myself!!!
They all sound so good, but I love the photo goal!!! That needs to be my goal for sure!!!
Anyway, good luck and have fun with all of them!!!
    I will see you soon!!!
    Love You 😘

  3. Thanks for posting your goals. The Cook’n app sounds intriguing. I’m going to look into it as I get a lot of recipes from online (and I usually forget where I found them). Good luck with your goals this year.

  4. It’s tough to put into words what an inspiration you are to me. You are an outstanding example of living life to the fullest in spite of being in a very tough situation.

  5. I love ❤️ your goals…..your words and ideas are quite inspirational. This year I baked shortbread cookies for family and friends….part of one of my goals. I too love essential oils and use them daily ….. I purchased some from Young Living that you can cook with and infused lavender oil into the butter…… they were exquisite……. I was going to make more today😉
