Spring Break 2020

Such a crazy time…the COVID-19 Spring Break will definitely go down in history.

When Spring Break began one week ago, things looked a lot different than they do now. The only people being asked to isolate were those returning from out of country travel. Gatherings of 50 people were still allowed. Gyms, restaurants and playgrounds were still open. So many of us wondering what to do about the kids- could they see a friend or two outside? Limit to once a week? Cory and I have decided that the kids will not be able to see friends in person. So far, so good. Olivia kept herself busy last week organizing my paper clutter and cooking and baking new recipes. Silas has been outside a lot raking and cutting the grass. He is growing a “quarantine” beard lol and figuring out how to set up a home workout space.

What I don’t understand is why people are continuously going shopping. My parents went to the seniors hour at Save on Foods last week and said it was busier than at Christmas. It was packed full of people with no way of keeping a safe distance from others. This is not helping to “flatten the curve”. Surely not everyone who is going out has reached the end of their food and other supplies. I wish they would show more of this on the news.

Thank you to everyone that has sent messages asking how I am doing and offering to help. I thought I would post a quick update here. I am doing well. For me, not much has changed. I am still in the house, but am unable to isolate. Cory is still going to work and I require a lot of care, so it is necessary for my caregivers to keep coming daily. Be grateful if you can self isolate. This pandemic is extraordinary, but the reality is that any cold or flu has the potential to develop into pneumonia and is often fatal for people with ALS. This is a concern for me 365 days a year. I sort of feel more protected now because of people’s diligence with hand washing and monitoring of their symptoms. I continue to take my vitamins, supplements and oregano oil and pray that I stay healthy…same as always. I am not fearful, but find Facebook depressing right now and so I am mostly using it to check my ALS forums and messenger. I am social distancing. πŸ˜‰

Be diligent my friends, but don’t become consumed by worry. Worrying not only doesn’t help, it actually increases stress and lowers your immunity. Be well! xo

I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
